Screen legend Steve McQueen takes the bull by the horns in this rough-and-tumble tale of a fading rodeo champion from acclaimed director Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch). Filmed in Prescott, AZ, Junior Bonner stars tough guy McQueen as the title character, a renowned bronco-buster whose rodeo career is on its last legs. Looking for one more win, Junior heads back to his hometown of Prescott to try his luck in the annual rodeo.

Having been out of touch with his family for years, Junior’s fond childhood memories are shattered when he discovers that his parents (Robert Preston and Ida Lupino) are splitting up thanks to his hard-drinking father, and his greedy brother (Joe Don Baker) is making a fortune by selling off the family ranch for real estate developments. Now, Junior must break the wildest bull in the West to bring his family back together for one final moment of cowboy glory in the roughest, rowdiest ride of his life! A beautifully melancholic look at the fading glory of the cowboy lifestyle in modern America, featuring moving performances from McQueen and a stellar cast of beloved character actors, Junior Bonner is a one-of-a-kind Western from maverick filmmaker Sam Peckinpah. (Dir. by Sam Peckinpah, 1972, USA, 100 mins., Rated PG)
